Business Hours

In general, opening and closing times in Budapest are similar to other European capitals. However there are some exceptions to this rule, the main one being Saturday afternoons. Here below is a general guide, to the business hours of various types of business.

Banks: Banks are generally open from 08:00 to 16:00 from Monday to Thursday and from 08:00 to 14:00 on Friday.
There are exceptions to this, such as certain banks staying open until 18:00 on Thursdays.
In all cases banks are closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Cash: ATM machines
are present at many banks and access is usually 24x7.

Post Offices: Post offices are generally open between 08:00 and 18:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays. There are exceptions to this, which are the post offices located close to main railway stations. These are:
Nyugati Palyaudvar and
Keleti Palyaudvar: Open from 07:00 to 21:00 Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00 to 17:00 on Sundays.

Cash:
It is possible to get cash at post offices throughout Hungary with a bank- or credit card. You may need to show an identification document, such as Passport or a National Identity Card

Supermarkets and food shops: Opening times tend to vary, however in general 07:00 to 20:00 between Monday and Friday, and 07:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays. In recent times many supermarkets have extended their opening days to include Sundays.
Match
supermarkets, located in Karoly krt, just by Deak ter metro station and in Andrassy ut, between Oktogon and the Opera are now open 24 hours daily.

Note: In most Budapest districts there are several small non-stop 24/7 shops, which have a limited choice of available products and tend to be slightly more expensive, however can be very useful. It is worthwhile to check the location of these when arriving at your apartment.

General shops and stores: T
he opening and closing times can vary, however as a rule they are open for business between 10:00 and 18:00 on weekdays and 10:00 and 14:00 on Saturdays.

Shopping Malls:
Again, the opening and closing times can vary, however as a rule they are open for business between 10:00 and 18:00 on weekdays and 10:00 and 17:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Restaurants: Opening and closing times can vary greatly between restaurants and days of the week. It is always best to check with the restaurant concerned. Restaurants in general close earlier than in most European capitals.

Museums, Art Galleries, Exhibitions: Generally open between 10:00 and 18:00 between Tuesday and Sunday.
The majority of museums are closed on Mondays. Best to check times before your visit.

Thermal Baths: Usually from 06:00 - 19:00 on Mondays - Fridays and 06:00 - 17: 00 on weekends.
