Horse Racing at Kincsem Park, Budapest

For a relaxing and fun way to spend an afternoon in Budapest, how about a visit to Kincsem Park, Hungary's only horse race track. A great experience for both adults and children - and who knows, you may even win back the cost of your holiday in Budapest.

Kincsem Park is an 84 hectare race park, which holds both national and international race meetings and is named after the champion thoroughbred racehorse Kincsem (1874 - 1887), who in the four racing seasons between 1876 and 1880, achieved a still unbeaten record of having won every of the 54 races that she was entered into - both in Hungary and on European race tracks.

The Hungarian word 'Kincsem' means 'My Precious'.

Kincsem Park has covered grandstands which provide shelter from the sun or rain, and when the weather is very cold it is also possible to stand inside and watch the races as they happen on the TV monitors. There are also inexpensive buffets and bars where snacks and drinks are available during the race meetings.

Before each race, you can view the horses as they are paraded in the paddock, decide on the "dead cert winner" and go and place your bets.

Kincsem Park holds "gallop" race meetings between April and November generally on either Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, starting at 14:00 and occasionally on weekday afternoons and holds "trotting" race meetings (jockey sits in a kind of chariot behind the horse) during the entire year.

Entrance to Kincsem Park is
free of charge.

How to get there:

Take the metro number 2 (red line) to
Pillango utca.
Kincsem Park is a couple of minutes
walk from the station exit.
